I went down to the National Cherry Blossom Festival on the Tidal Basin in Washington D.C. to photo explorer the festivities. The full bloom dates were a tad bit late this year… An instrumental website that kept me up to date on the progress of the flowers blooming was a website called http://havecamerawilltravel.com.
He had a page dedicated to almost day-to-day updates with images. More info on the 2013 D.C. Cherry Blossom watch can be found at this link. The timing to take photos have to be just right, if you are too early, you get photos of buds just about to bloom. If you are too late, you get nothing. So, my timing had to be perfect. Once, I reached D.C. I had a couple of stops to make besides the Tidal Basin. I really wanted to get a good shot of the “Multiverse” by artist Leo Villareal at The National Gallery of Art.
I arrived at the Tidal Basin one day before full bloom, but that was good enough for me. No need to come back 2 days later. The experience was really great, with tons of people out viewing the Cherry blossoms. These three photo represent the atmosphere on that day.
