While in Lower Manhattan I took a quick ride on the Staten Island Ferry, on my return trip I came across a practically fully Citi bike docking station…The bike rack was located at the intersection of State Street and Whitehall Street, across from the terminals entrance.
I was thinking of this photo concept ever since the Citi bike crews have been installing the docking stations all over the city. Originally I wanted to take this photo with my tripod, but for obvious reasons, I do not carry the tripod with me every day, plus it quite heavy to haul around all over the city.
My next best alternative was to balance my elbows on my knees (make-shift tripod) to take the 3 exposure HDR image. The light was pretty good at this time of the day, but I really wanted to make sure there was no shake or blurriness in the photos. Since this was around lunch time on a Monday. I was getting some pretty strange stares from people eating lunch in the surrounding area, but this is the reality of NYC after 9/11 & the Boston tragedy. Anyway, after several shots I was pretty happy with the photos and could not wait to post-process them via different software.
