Manhattanhenge was all the rage for photographers last week. If you are not familiar with the term, this is when the sun aligns perfectly east to west with the main streets of NYC. For example, streets like 14th St, 34th St, 42nd St and 79th St to name a few… My favorite is 42nd St in Tudor City. Manhattanhenge was supposed to happen on July 12th, 2013 but it was a bust due to the rainy weather conditions. I went last year and it was a blast trying to capture Manhattanhenge.
Since this occurrence only happens twice a year in Manhattan, we will have to wait till next year. That’s what I thought, but I came across a very interesting data visualization map called NYCHenge. The maps show you a grid of other neighborhoods across the five boroughs that have their very own henge days.
